Since I don’t feel like uploading more photos, I’ll keep The Globe visit for another post. Today, I’ll tell you how mother dearest made our first day unforgettable.

Settling in the house we rented, we all picked rooms, unpacked necessary items, and showered. I headed straight to bed while my brothers went for a walk, and my parents.. I didn’t know what they were doing, but I found out what my mom was doing later.

I had just drifted off to sleep when I heard an annoying constant ringing. I wasn’t sure if it was me dreaming or reality. I just lay in bed with my eyes open trying to figure it out. Then, my brother rushed in and told me to put on something decent and head outside because the fire alarm went off. Umm.. okay? Where’s the fire? He looked at me and shrugged. What the hell?

I got dressed, and my mom came into my room saying, “Wee, 6alait mn eldreesha wela eldenya kelha wagfa bara yaboun yanqethouna.” (“I looked out of the window, and the whole world is standing outside wanting to save us.”) Seriously, mom? Then I asked her what set off the alarm.. “7a6ait bukhoor w nesait ena fi hatha mal el7areeja (smoke detector). 3ad 7a6ait elbukhoor ta7ta wana madry w 6ag hatha elmuz3ej.” (I lit up bukhoor and forgot there were smoke detectors. I put the bukhoor right under the smoke detector without knowing, and it set off the fire alarm.”) I really wanted to appear pissed, but I cracked up because everyone thought it was something serious. There were people standing outside calling the Fire Department.
